- COLCA CANYON
- THE MAGESTIC CONDOR
The Colca Canyon is located 40 km from the town of Chivay (165 km from Arequipa city) in the province of Caylloma in the Arequipa Region. The Colca Canyon is the habitat of many animals, but the one that catches the most attention is the Andean condor in its masterful flight. One of the most wonderful spectacles of this visit is the impressive sunrise next to the precipices where you can observe the fascinating flight of the condors.
PROGRAM:
FIRST DAY:
After meeting we left Arequipa at 8:00 am. via Yura. We will pass by the foothills of Chachani, Pampa de Arrieros, Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve where we will appreciate the slender vicuñas, we will continue by Vizcachani, Pampas de Toccra where we will observe a great variety of birds, then we will continue skirting the Chucura crater to arrive later to Patapampa (4 800 masl.) and Mirador de los Andes where we can observe the volcanoes that surround the city of Arequipa. Then we will descend to the town of Chivay where we will enjoy a delicious lunch (not included). Optional afternoon visit to the Calera hot springs, then we will enjoy a delicious dinner (not included). Overnight in a comfortable lodging.
SECOND DAY:
After enjoying our breakfast (very early), we will go to Cruz del Cóndor, located 41 km from Chivay, where we will observe one of the most spectacular places of our visit to the Canyon. You can almost always see the condors on their masterful flights.
At the end of this activity we will start our return visiting the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, Yanque and the viewpoints of Antahuilque and Choquetico. At midday we will arrive to Chivay for lunch (not included) and we will return by the Patapampa route, flat (4 800 masl), where we will find "El Mirador de los Andes", from here we will be able to observe the Chila mountain range with the Mismi , a short distance from Chucura and Huarancote, in the distance the Ubinas, Misti, Chachani, Ampato, Sabancaya and HualcaHualca, we continue the journey, cutting the crater of Chucura and continuing through the Pampa de Toccra, finding bofedales almost always with a great variety of Andean birds. After approx. Four hours of travel (151 km) we will arrive at the city of Arequipa at 4:00 p.m. approx.
