DAY 01 (CUSCO - CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA): An early morning meeting (pick up from hotels) and start our adventure from Cusco city, in one of our private vehicles. On the way we are going to visit the interesting funerary towers of the archaeological site of Ninamarca (burial towers, commonly known as "Chullpas"), where we will have a brief explanation by the guide. Continuing the trip we will visit Paucartambo, a picturesque and interesting town of colonial origin (full of folklore). Then we will continue our journey to the Acjanaco Pass (3,600 masl.), which marks the beginning of our adventure within "Manu National Park" (spectacular view of the Amazon Basin); to then descend through an interesting Cloud Forest, where the humidity of the place provides an ideal habitat for species such as: orchids, ferns (very old plants), bromeliads (epiphytes), mosses, lichens and much more. In the fascinating Cloud Forest we can also observe species such as: the Cock of the Rock (Peru's national bird), the Quetzal, Monkeys, the Spectacled Bear, among others. Many species are endemic to this area. We have lunch on the way; finally this day, we arrive at our first and cozy "Paraíso lodge" near the town of Pilcopata (800 masl.).
DAY 02 (PILCOPATA - ATALAYA – BOCA MANU): After a delicious Amazonian breakfast, we continue our journey for another hour in our vehicle to the town of Atalaya (port), making stops to observe the interesting life of the area (flora, fauna and populations), and we will also have the option to visit a hummingbird garden and a coca plantation; After arriving at the town of Atalaya, we will board our motor boat (canoe) on the Alto Madre de Dios River, and going upstream we will have the opportunity to cool off and do a little swimming; then we go down the Alto Madre de Dios River by boat for about 5 hours to our comfortable and cozy "Boca Manu Lodge". On this journey within Manu National Park, we will see different species of birds typical of riverbanks, such as: kingfishers, swallows, flycatchers, skimmers, lapwings, Jabirus, storks, herons and many more; We will also have the opportunity to look for and observe mammals such as: capybaras, river otters, tapirs, monkeys, and much more. Before reaching Boca Manu we will visit the native community of "Diamante". The town of Boca Manu is located very close to the confluence of the Manu and Alto Madre de Dios rivers. The idea of ??sleeping here gives us the opportunity to start our trip on the Manu River very early, increasing our chances of finding more wildlife. In Boca Manu there are shops where you can buy additional supplies for the trip.
DAY 03 (BOCA MANU – MANU RIVER - CASA MATSIGUENKA): After breakfast, we will continue our trip this time on the Manu River, which is within the Reserved Area of Manu National Park and we will begin one of our best days. The boat trip gives us the opportunity to see the immensity of the tropical forest; ten minutes by boat after Boca Manu, we will have the opportunity to visit a Parrots Clay Lick (clay wall on the river bank known as "Collpa"), where many species of parakeets and parrots such as: the white eyed parakeet, the blue headed parrot, the yellow crowned parrot, etc. they will go to eat the clay that is rich in minerals and salts that these birds use as supplements to their diet of seeds and fruits. Then we continue our trip towards to Limonal (checkpoint), and after registering and the recommendations of the park rangers, we continue traveling on Manu River (reserved area) for approximately 5 hours, having the opportunity to see an infinity of wildlife in this pristine place. Alligators, turtles, capybaras, monkeys, anteaters, probably the majestic "Jaguar" and much more. We will also see imposing trees such as: The ceiba, the iron tree, the mahogany, the cedar, the capirona and more. We will arrive at our lodge "Casa Matsiguenka", which is in the area of Salvador Lake, with all the facilities such as: Rooms, dining room with mosquito nets, bathrooms and showers. After a short rest at the lodge, we'll start walking the area's trail system (trocha), concentrating and having a general discussion about the ecology of the rainforest. We will return to our Safari Lodge and we will have the possibility of doing a night walk to observe and feel the jungle of Manu National Park in the dark (enjoy the wonderful Amazonian sky).
Casa Matsiguenka, is a shelter managed by indigenous Amazonians of the Matshiguenca ethnic group (it is not a native community).
DAY 04 (CASA MATSIGUENKA – SALVADOR LAKE - CASA MATSIGUENKA): An early awakening, to listen to the Cotomono or red howler monkey (Aloatta seniculus) howling through its territory. With a pleasant temperature, we will begin our wildlife observation adventure by visiting the "Salvador Lake", within the reserved area of ? "Manu National Park"; We will silently row a catamaran along this lake, which will give us the opportunity to see the famous Giant Otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) in their daily activities, we will be able to see them playing, swimming, fishing, eating and defending their territory. We will also see many species of monkeys, birds, caimans among others. The visit to Salvador Lake and its area will take us part of the morning. After visiting Lake Salvador, we will walk into the forest, always trying to find more wildlife. In the afternoon of this day we will continue walking, looking for more wildlife and learning more about the forest of this magical place. I return to camp. Possibility to do a night walk and feel the jungle again in the dark.
Note: In the Casa Matsiguenka area, there is the possibility of visiting a "Macaw Clay Lick" (Clay wall rich in minerals and salts that these birds use as supplements to their diet of seeds and fruits.). This activity, not being 100% successful, is subject to the time available after observing species in Lake Salvador.
DAY 05 (CASA MATSIGUENKA – OTORONGO – BOCA MANU): Another early wake up, and after breakfast start the return trip to Boca Manu. On the return trip by boat, we will continue searching and enjoying the great diversity of this paradise; On the way we will arrive at the Otorongo's area and enjoy the walk to the Otorongo observation tower, and once again have the opportunity to observe more wildlife. Then we will walk back to the boat, to enjoy and continue looking for more wildlife. Going down Manu River, we will continue looking for the jaguar, tapir, sloths, alligators, turtles, and the great immensity of birds that exist in this area. We will arrive at the Boca Manu lodge in the afternoon, where we will spend another night.nother
DAY 06 (BOCA MANU - HOT SPRINGS - ERIKA LODGE): After a delicious breakfast, we will continue our trip upstream on the Alto Madre de Dios River, back to Erika Lodge, on the way back we will have the opportunity to see and search for more wildlife, and we will also be able to enjoy and bathe in the hot springs of the area. Upon arrival at the lodge we will have the opportunity to enjoy the jungle once again.
DAY 07 (ERIKA LODGE - ATALAYA - CUSCO): An early wake up, 40 more minutes by boat to Atalaya, where our private vehicle is waiting to take us back to Cusco city. On the way we will see and feel how this magical and mysterious place is being left behind, after having given us one of the most fantastic adventures of our lives. We have lunch on the way, arriving to Cusco city approximately at dinner time. End of our services...
